Pirates Split With DI Foe Metropolitan CC

Pirates baseball earned a split with Metropolitan CC on Tuesday at Shaffer Park in Chillicothe, MO.  Overall, NCMC is now 14-28 ahead of a home 4-game set with North Arkansas College this coming weekend.  Earlier this year, the Pirates dropped 3 of 4 in Harrison, AR to the 26-10 Pioneers.

NCMC couldn't hang on to an early lead in the opener with Metro CC despite leading 6-0 after one inning of play.  The Wolves chipped away at the deficit and eventually prevailed 8-6.  Taking the loss on the mound for the Pirates was sophomore reliever Ben Swift (0-1).

The Pirates returned the favor in game two, erasing a 4-0 deficit to get a 6-5 extra inning victory on freshman Layne Rutherford's walk-off fielder's choice.  Scoring the winning run was Brett FuserVictor Olmos (1-0) earned the victory in relief, pitching a pair of scoreless innings including a 2 runners on, 0 out jam he inherited in the 7th.

Sophomores Noah Bodenhausen (4-8, 2 runs) and Arturo Brito (3-6, 3 RBIs) paced the Pirates offense.  Each player now sits in a tie for the team's best batting average for the season, along with first baseman Noel Medina, at .313.
