Pirates baseball hit the road over the weekend and went 1-2 against NJCAA Region 16 foe East Central College. The Pirates dropped a pair of games on Friday by the scores of 11-5 and 12-5 before taking Saturday's matchup 4-2. Following the series, NCMC holds an overall record of 13-27 and a mark of 3-8 in region play.
Earning Saturday's win on the mound was freshman Layne Rutherford. He improved his season record to 2-4 behind 4 solid innings, holding East Central to just a single earned run. Coming in to back him up for a 3-inning save was sophomore Avery Rivero. He allowed no runs and posted 3 strikeouts in his third save of the season.
Leading the Pirates offense in hits over the weekend was table setter Arturo Brito. He went 6-8 plus 3 walks and scored 3 runs for the Pirates. Providing the power for NCMC was Victor Olmos. He accumulated 3 hits including his 9th home run of the year. He drove in 6 runs in the series.
NCMC's next action will be a neutral site (Shaffer Park in Chillicothe, MO) doubleheader with Metropolitan CC. That action is set for a 1pm first pitch on Tuesday.
