Comeback Victory Salvages One Game Against East Central College

Pirates baseball could only secure a single victory in their home weekend series with East Central College but that victory was an exciting one.

NCMC trailed 8-4 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning when they were able to scratch out a pair of runs.  That set the stage for 7th inning heroics from the middle of the Pirates order.  Freshman Jesus Fonseca, batting in the 3-hole, singled to start the inning.  That brought Victor Olmos, the team's leading home run hitter, to the plate with a chance to tie the game.  Olmos was up to the challenge as he belted the game tying homer over the left center field fence which electrified the Burleigh Grimes Field crowd. The home run was his 8th of the season.  Layne Rutherford delivered the walk off single in extra innings to walk off the Pirates come from behind victory.

The Pirates dropped the other three games of the series by scores of 4-0, 14-1 and 11-1.  NCMC's season record now sits at 12-24 and is 2-6 in region play.

Next up will be a home matchup with State Fair CC on Tuesday.  The Pirates were handed a 13-3 defeat last week when they traveled to State Fair so the team will be looking to avenge that loss.
