Pirates Bats Come Alive To Earn Split With Redlands CC

Pirates baseball posted a split in their 4-game series with Redlands CC on Monday and Tuesday.  The Pirates had a rough go on day one dropping both games by the scores of 14-0 and 10-6.  However, NCMC's offense surged in the last two games to get 9-5 and 17-11 wins.  On the season, the team is now 4-8 ahead of a weekend road trip to take on NOC-Tonkawa.

The Pirates top offensive performer against Redlands was Victor Olmos.  He went 4-11 including 3 home runs, one of which was a grand slam.  He ended the weekend with a team high 8 RBIs.  Noah Bodenhausen also played well going 6-12 to improve his season batting average to .417.  He scored 7 times for the Pirates as well.

Earning wins on the mound were the freshman duo of Layne Rutherford and Bailey Quint.  They combined to toss 9.2 innings while allowing just a single earned run each and posting a combined 12 strikeouts.  Pitching well out of the bullpen again for NCMC was sophomore Avery Rivero.  His season ERA is 4.50.  Freshman Evan Johnston also was key in relief, tossing 2.1 innings over a pair of appearances without allowing an earned run.

Defense for the Pirates is an area they will look to improve.  They committed 16 errors over the 4 games which led to 20 unearned runs.
