Pirates baseball opened their season on Sunday and Monday when the played road contests with North Arkansas College. The Pioneers took 3 of 4 games from the Pirates in the series, with NCMC's lone win coming in the opener on Monday 9-7. NCMC's next action will be 4 road games in Tishomingo, OK over the weekend. The Pirates will play a pair against Murray State College and Hesston College.
Offense was difficult for NCMC to come by for most of the opening series. However, sophomore Noah Bodenhausen had a nice 4 games hitting .455 with a double and 4 runs scored. NCMC homers came from freshmen Victor Olmos and Tanner Wright, each knocking 1 round tripper. As a team, NCMC batted .232 and struck out 36 times.
On the mound, freshman Bailey Quint notched his first career victory by twirling 5.1 innings while allowing 4 earned runs. Taking losses were Dylan Niemeyer (4.0 IP, 5 ER), Nathan Fine (2.2 IP, 0 ER), and Layne Rutherford (3.2 IP, 6 ER). Walks and hit by pitches plagued the staff as a whole, resulting in 29 free bases for North Ark. Pirates defense also committed 8 errors resulting in 8 unearned runs.
