It was a home split for Pirates baseball on Tuesday when they scrimmaged Highland Community College. NCMC bested the Scotties 8-3 in game one before falling 3-2 in the nightcap. For the fall, the Pirates are now 3-2-1 with their next action coming on the road against Graceland University on Oct. 12th.
Leading the Pirates offense was freshman Layne Rutherford. He went 3-4 with 3 RBIs and 1 run scored. Arturo Brito and Edward Viloria each scored a pair of runs for NCMC.
On the mound, Pirates pitchers allowed just 3 earned runs over 15 innings pitched. The other 3 Highland runs came on 4 NCMC errors. Trenton Trieb got the game one win with Jaden Thacker taking the tough luck loss in game two. Both runs he allowed were unearned. The Scotties also stole 9 bases in the contest to help their cause.
