Pirates baseball opened their fall scrimmage season with a pair of wins over Graceland University at home on Tuesday. Final scores were 11-3 and 4-3. Earning wins on the mound were Dylan Niemeyer and Sungbin Park, with Kyle Stratman getting the save in game two.
Overall, Pirates pitching dominated the Graceland hitters, allowing only 8 hits over 14 innings. The staff did struggle with command at times, giving up 9 walks and 6 hit by pitch. The Pirates used a total of 11 pitchers, each throwing only an inning or two.
Offensively, Kenny Scottborgh knocked a solo home run in game two, the Pirates lone long ball of the day. Also having nice offensive days were fellow freshmen Bailey Quint and Layne Rutherford, each notching a pair of hits. Sophomore standout Noah Bodenhausen plated 4 Pirates in just two at bats, all in game one. As a team, the Pirates collected 13 hits and posted a team batting average of .250 on the day.
Next up for NCMC will be a pair of road scrimmage games on Thursday with Benedictine College.
