Pirates Baseball Season Kicks Off

Pirates Baseball Season Kicks Off

Pirates Baseball went 1-3 on their season opening road trip to Oklahoma on Monday and Tuesday.  The Pirates split their games against Hesston College but dropped both contests against hosting Murray State College.  Next up will be a four game set at North Arkansas College over the weekend.

Swinging a hot bat for the Pirates to start the season was Nathaniel Lai.  He went 4-7 at the plate with a double and the go ahead homerun in the Pirates lone win.  Fellow sophomore Braedyn Brewer also contributed nicely going 4-10 with 4 runs, 3 RBIs and 3 stolen bases.

On the mound, Keven Franco tossed 5 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts in his start but got the no decision in the game.  Jay Greco earned that win in relief.  Also with a nice start for the Pirates was Yasser Rondon who twirled 3.2 innings, allowing just 1 earned run and striking out 4.

Timely defensive miscues for the Pirates hurt their chances of taking the second game against Hesston.  3 errors were committed leading to 4 unearned runs.
