Former Pirates Continue Baseball Success

Former Pirates Baseball players continue to have success at the university level.  The MIAA Conference, a top league at the NCAA Division II level, just released their regular season honors and three former Pirates were recognized for their exceptional play for the 2019 season. 

 

Junior first baseman Connor Quick (Northwest Missouri State University) secured first-team honors.  Quick ranked among the MIAA leaders in triples (2nd - 4), slugging percentage (3rd - .597), RBIs (3rd - 49), batting average (4th - .382), hits (5th - 71) and on-base percentage (6th - .459).  Quick reached base in 32 consecutive games entering the upcoming MIAA Tournament.  He posted an 18-game hitting streak this season, has 25 multi-hit games and tallied 12 multiple-RBI contests.

 

Junior shortstop Alex Madera (University of Central Missouri) received second-team distinction.  He totaled 70 hits for the year with 16 doubles, tying him for fifth in the league.  He had a .363 batting average this season, a .411 on-base percentage, has driven in 30 runs and scored 39 times.

 

Senior outfielder Derek Hussey (Northwest Missouri State University) achieved third-team status. Hussey led his team with 43 runs scored and stole a team high 9 bases.  Hussey posted 20 multi-hit games and 7 multi-RBI contests.  Hussey notched a career-high 4 hits at Emporia State University on May 4th.
