Pirates Baseball Start Region Play With Split At Three Rivers CC

Pirates Baseball split their opening Region 16 series this past weekend on the road at Three Rivers Community College.  On Saturday, the Pirates lost 13-0 and 11-3.  Sunday, the team rebounded with 9-2 and 10-7 wins to bring their overall record to 3-8.  Next action will be a tough road test at 5th ranked Jefferson College on Friday.

Saturday did not go as the Pirates planned.  "We were outplayed in every facet of the game.  Three Rivers simply came out and took it to us," commented Coach Suttenfield.  On top of being outscored 24-3 on the day, the Pirates collected only 7 hits and committed 6 errors leading to 7 unearned runs.  Pirates pitchers also walked 10 batters.

Sunday saw the Pirates show their resilience.  "We knew that to reach our goals this season we needed to make a stand and wins some games.  It was great to see the leaders of the team pull everyone together to get the job done," Suttenfield added.  Outstanding starting pitching performances from Peyton Seiz and Angel Reyes got the Pirates headed in the right direction.  Combined, they threw 9.1 innings allowing just 2 earned runs.

Leading the way offensively for the Pirates over the weekend was sophomore Kendrick Delima.  He went 4-9 with a home run, 6 RBIs and 4 BBs.  Freshman Logan Eickhoff also had a hot weekend going 5-13 plus his first career home run.  He led the Pirates with 4 runs scored.
