Pirates Baseball Opens Season

Pirates Baseball Opens Season

Pirates Baseball got their season kicked off with a four game road trip this past weekend at Carl Albert State College.  The Pirates took the opener of the series 5-4 before falling in the remaining three games.  Next action for NCMC will be another road trip to Oklahoma where the team will play a pair of games with Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College and Lake Land College.

In the opener, sophomore Brandon Whitehead earned the win on the mound tossing 4 solid innings, allowing just one unearned run.  Offensively, the big blow of the game came in the third inning when Kendrick Delima knocked a 2-run homer.  See the video below.  Delima finished the game with 3 RBI's.

The remainder of the games went to Carl Albert.  The Achilles heel for the Pirates for the weekend was runners left on base.  Over the four games, NCMC stranded 23 runners.  "We just did not get timely hitting enough in this series.  When games are close, as these four were, that ends up being the difference," commented Coach Suttenfield.

Leading the Pirates offensively for the weekend was Nathaniel Bentura, who went 8-14 with 3 RBI's.  Delima and Alexander Lovin each knocked homeruns.  CL Stacker batted .455 with a pair of triples and 4 RBI's.
