Pirates Fall Against Highland CC

Pirates Baseball took two close losses to Highland Community College on Thursday.  Games were played at the Kansas City Royals Urban Youth Academy field due to wet conditions at Highland.  Game one went to the Scotties by a score of 3-2 and the second game was 6-4.  The Pirates held early leads in each game but couldn't close out the victories.  With the losses, the Pirates are now 5-9-3 in fall exhibitions.

Game one saw a fine start on the mound by Gregoor Moesker.  He pitched the first three innings and allowed no runs.  The Pirates held a 2-0 lead going into the 4th inning when the Scotties plated 3 to take an insurmountable lead.

Another big inning for Highland proved to be the difference in the second game.  In the 3rd, the Pirates gave up a total of 5 runs which was too much to overcome.

"Big innings were our downfall in these two games.  For the day, eight of the nine runs scored against us were scored in two innings.  We have to learn how to minimize the damage when we do give up runs in order to win," commented Coach Suttenfield.

The Pirates get another shot at Highland on Saturday when they host a doubleheader at Burleigh Grimes.
