Pirates Drop Two Close Contests

Pirates Baseball dropped a pair of games Saturday in rainy conditions at the University of Central Missouri.  In game one, Iowa Central Community College bested NCMC by a score of 4-3.  In the second game of the double header, Metropolitan Community College outlasted the Pirates winning 7-5.

Kendrick Delima (3-3, 1 run and 1 RBI) and Nathaniel Bentura (2-2, 1 RBI) led the offense for the Pirates in the opener.  In the game, NCMC outhit Iowa Central 8-2 but could not push across the runs needed for the win.  On the mound, 5 walks for Pirates pitching ended up costing them.

Against Metropolitan, the Pirates fell behind 7-0 through three innings before mounting a comeback that fell just short.  In the final frame, the Pirates were able to get the tying run on base but couldn't cash in on the opportunity.  Again the Pirates outhit their opponent, this time 11-7, but fell just short on the scoreboard.  For the pitchers, it was again a lack of command that setup the Wolves' big innings.  In the game, Pirate pitchers walked 11.

"All in all, I'm not displeased with how we preformed.  We see the areas we need to improve and now it is time to go to work in practice to get better so we can secure some wins," commented Coach Hillerman.

The next game action for NCMC will be at home on September 18th against Central Methodist University.  The game start time is 3:00pm at Burleigh Grimes Field.
