Pirates Baseball Regular Season Concludes

Pirates Baseball completed their regular season on Tuesday with a 15-11 win over MCC-Longview.  The win comes a day after the Pirates took a 9-4 road loss to Indian Hills Community College.  The final regular season mark for NCMC was 16-36 ahead of this weekend's postseason action.

Monday, the Pirates fell behind early to Indian Hills and could not complete the comeback bid.  Starting pitcher Deric Killday allowed 6 runs, 5 of which were earned, during his two innings of work.  The bullpen held strong allowing only three more tallies the rest of the way but the offense couldn't muster enough steam for the win.  Notable offensive performances for the Pirates were put in by Quinsly Balentien (3-4, 2 RBIs) and Caleb Walker (2-2, 3 BBs and 1 RBI).

The Pirates had better luck in closing their regular season on the road Tuesday.  Getting the win in relief for the Pirates was Brian Whiles who pitched the final 2.1 innings allowing no runs.  The offense broke out in a big way in the top of the 7th inning when they plated 10 runs.  Leading the 15 run total Pirates attack was catcher Jared Fry who went 2-4 with a home run, 2 walks, 2 runs scored and 1 RBI.  Stay'Jawn Hunter added a 4-5 effort with 2 runs and 3 RBIs.  "The win over Longview was a nice way to close the regular season.  We will try to carry that momentum into our postseason Sub-Region matchup," commented Coach Hillerman.
