Pirates Earn Road Win At Graceland JV

Pirates Baseball got on the winning track Monday on the road against Graceland University JV.  NCMC got the win by a final score of 11-3 which improved the team's record to 8-37 on the year.

Highlighting the day for the Pirates offensively was Quinsly Balentien who hit for the cycle.  In his final at bat of the day, he was needing only a homerun to pull off the feat.  With two runners on base he smacked a ball to dead center field that came up a few feet short of the centerfield fence.  However, he was running hard out of the box and was not to be denied.  Coach Hudlow emphatically waived him to the plate where he narrowly beat the throw for an inside the park homer.  "I told Quinsly before his at bat that if he hit one to the wall I'd have to try to send him to complete the cycle.  He's a really fast kid and I could see the determination in his face as he rounded third for home," commented Coach Hudlow.

On the mound, Amexem Hamm had the best outing of his Pirates career.  He threw 6 innings allowing only 1 hit while striking out 11 batters for the win.  Also contributing on the mound were Brandon Whitehead, Andrew Freemyer, and Austin Wren.

Next action for the Pirates is a road game Tuesday against Highland Community College.
