Pirates Get One Win Against State Fair CC

The Pirates dropped three of four games against State Fair Community College this past Friday and Saturday.

In the lone win, sophomore Trae Brownell pitched a gem giving up only 1 earned run on 3 hits in 6.2 innings of work.  Coming in for the one out save was fellow sophomore Lucas Hampton.  Hampton in the series pitched a total of 2.2 innings of relief while only allowing 2 hits.  "Trae has really been throwing the ball well for us lately and giving us a chance to win.  Hampton continues to be our go-to reliever, a spot he's held since early in his freshman season a year ago," remarked Coach Suttenfield of the two outstanding sophomore pitchers.

At the plate, sophomore shortstop Enrique Madera continued his hot hitting going .500 on the weekend.  In addition to his 8 hits and 5 runs scored, he also played excellent defense in the team's win.  "Alex (Madera) has hit well for us all season.  We expect these types of efforts from him," commented Coach Hillerman.

Also hitting well for the Pirates in the series were sophomore catcher Jared Fry (6 for 13, 2 BB and 2 runs) and freshman centerfielder Stay'Jawn Hunter (5 for 12, 3 runs and 3 RBI).

The Pirates overall record is now 6-23 with a 5-15 Region 16 mark.  With three series left in region play, the Pirates are currently in 7th place for the nine team region.
