Pirates Split Home Doubleheader With St. Charles CC

Pirates Baseball split the home doubleheader Sunday against St. Charles Community College.  Game one went to the Pirates 8-2 but in the finale the Pirates were on the short end of a 7-6 score.  The Pirates are now 5-20 overall and 4-12 in Region 16 play.  In Region 16 standings, the Pirates are tied for 7th in the 9 team league.

The game one win was sophomore pitcher Trae Brownell's best outing of the season.  He pitched a complete game allowing no earned runs.  "It was nice to see Trae pitching to his potential.  He was a leader on the mound for us last year and on Sunday he looked to be in that form again," commented assistant coach Ryan Suttenfield.

Game two was close from start to finish but the Pirates were unable to pull out the victory.  "While we certainly wanted to get a sweep in the series, I was proud of how our guys played these last four games and hopefully we can continue to build on the momentum we have going," remarked head coach Donnie Hillerman.

Wednesday the Pirates hit the road for a doubleheader with Graceland University JV.  The Pirates will be looking to avenge last week's home loss to the Yellowjackets.
