Two Pirate Baseball Players Sign Early

Madera and Quick to sign national letter of intent to play D2 baseball.

Two members of the NCMC baseball team have made commitments during the NCAA early signing period.  Enrique "Alex" Madera committed to the University of Central Missouri and Connor Quick has committed to Northwest Missouri State University.

Alex, an international student-athlete from Curacao, was the first to announce his commitment and sign a National Letter of Intent.  A leader on the field, Alex plays shortstop for the Pirates.  As a freshman he was an NJCAA Academic All-American, he also earned the team's "Top Freshman" award.  This season he is one of the four players designated as Team Representatives.  "There were a lot of schools who showed interest in Alex, getting multiple NCAA D-I offers, but Alex chose Central Missouri because of Coach Crooks and his staff.  They run an impressive program and they did an excellent job recruiting Alex.  He will be a big piece for Central Missouri, a program that has established themselves as a perennial powerhouse in NCAA D-II baseball."  Coach Hillerman added, "Alex has very strong baseball skills and he has a bright future, but it is the intangibles that will separate him from the competition.  He has a very high ceiling as a player and as a person."

Connor Quick made his commitment to Northwest Missouri State University and also signed a National Letter of Intent.  Likewise, a Team Representative, Conner primarily plays first base for the Pirates but is also a very capable outfielder.  Connor played his prep ball at Rockwood Summit High School in the St. Louis area.  As a freshman, Quick received the NCMC team award as the "Top Offensive player".  In addition, he was recognized with a very prestigious First Team All-Region selection, posting an impressive .458 batting average (#3 in the country, NJCAA D-I).  "Connor is another in a long line of players that we have sent to Northwest Missouri State over the years.  I am very thankful to have such a good relationship with NWMSU and Coach Loe, I'm confident that Connor will enjoy his experience with their program.  Conner is one of the best pure hitters that I have coached.  He has tremendous potential as a player and a person.  I'm proud of the player he's become, without question he'll will be a huge asset to the NWMSU program." – Stated Coach Hillerman.

Coach Hillerman also commented, "Alex and Connor hold each other in very high regard and they're excited about the prospect of playing against each other in the same conference (MIAA).  Our coaching staff and their teammates are all eager to watch as these two move forward in their baseball careers. They are the first two to commit from this class, which consists of a very talented group of players."
