Pirates Drop Two At Indian Hills CC

The NCMC Pirates dropped both games of their doubleheader Tuesday at Indian Hill Community College, 5-1 and 5-4.  The losses move the team's record to 13-16 on the year ahead of a big four game set this weekend with new region 16 opponent State Fair Community College.

In game one, Angel Reyes took the loss on the mound giving up 3 runs over 3 innings pitched.  "Angel competed well despite the fact he could only throw his fastball for a strike.  We have to continue to develop his secondary pitches in order for him to have success against high caliber hitters like the ones Indian Hills has in their lineup," commented Coach Suttenfield.  Offensively, the Pirates couldn't put together a sustained attack.  Connor Quick totaled two hits and drove in the lone run.

In game two, sophomore Drew Bunch provided an excellent start on the mound.  He kept Indian Hills off-balance by mixing his pitches and throwing his breaking ball for a strike.  When he exited the game after 4.1 innings pitched, the Pirates trailed 3-1.  The Pirate offense showed signs late in a comeback attempt but came up just short.  Freshman Tanner Ryan had the biggest blow of the day for the Pirates when he knocked out a 2 run homerun, his first of the season.  Quick added 3 more hits making him 5 for 7 on the day.

"Indian Hills is a solid club.  We competed well against them despite not coming away with a win.  We need to take care of the finer details better plus add some clutch hitting to pull out games against high end competition," remarked Coach Hillerman.

The Pirates next action will be at home on Saturday.  First pitch is set for 1:00pm.
