NCMC Pirate's Baseball recently completed a nice southern swing as they compiled a 5-1 record while in Myrtle Beach, SC.  The strong showing improves the team's overall record to 10-9 on the season.

"We played solid baseball for the most part and took care of business," remarked Coach Hillerman of the trip.  In day one, the Pirates faced Elgin College who handed the team it's only defeat in the front end of the doubleheader.  "We split with Elgin on the first day.  They were a very solid club who didn't make many mistakes," commented Hillerman.  The remainder of the trip saw the Pirates run rule the College of Southern Maryland, solidly handle Harper College and Ocean County College, plus pull out a nail-biter in walk off fashion against Fulton-Montgomery Community College.

Leading a strong offense on the trip were 5 hitters who batted over .300.  Enrique Madera hit .476 with 8 runs, 7 RBIs and his first homerun of the year.  Derek Hussey, recently returning from injury, hit .455 with 9 runs and 8 RBIs.  Leadoff man Brendly Martina produced a nice .381 average with 9 runs and a homerun.  Freshmen Curtis Mitchell (.357 with 1 HR) and Connor Quick (.409 and 9 RBIs) also continued their hot hitting.  Quick delivered the walk off triple that sealed the final victory of the trip.

On the mound, strong starts were produced by Kylan Easley, Trae Brownell, and Angel Reyes.  The trio allowed only 4 earned runs over 16 innings pitched.  Each collected a win for their efforts.  Also earning wins on the mound were Wade Phillips and Bo McSpadden.  "Our pitchers who threw strikes generally had good outings.  You can really tell that pitchers on the staff are buying in to the philosophy we teach and they are seeing positive outcomes," remarked Coach Suttenfield.

The next action for the Pirates will be a home four game set against region foe Jefferson College.  The Pirates bring in a Region 16 record of 4-4.  Games are set for Saturday and Sunday at Burleigh Grimes though rain is in the forecast.
