The Pirates baseball team took an 18-1 loss against Highland Community College on Tuesday. The loss drops the team's record to 5-8 on the year. The team hopes to snap their current 5 game losing streak on Saturday when they host region foe Mineral Area College in a doubleheader.
Brendley Martina led the dismal offensive production for the Pirates collecting 2 of the team's 8 hits and scored the lone run. Quinsly Balentien also added 2 hits on the afternoon.
Drew Bunch took the loss on the mound allowing 6 runs, all earned, in 2 innings of work. The Pirates also committed 6 errors on the day.
"Simply put, we just were not ready to play today. We lost every facet of the game. I don't know why our focus and motivation was so low but it must improve," commented assistant coach Ryan Suttenfield.
