Pirates Complete Series Sweep Of 3 Rivers On Sunday

Game 1:

Blake Collister's complete game shutout led the Pirates to a 5-0 win in the first game of a doubleheader with Three Rivers CC on Sunday.  He allowed 3 hits while walking 1 and striking out 1.  "Blake had really good stuff today as he usually does.  What really made this a standout performance was his ability to buy into our approach of throwing lots of strikes and letting his defense work.  To throw a complete game on 82 pitches is outstanding," commented Coach Hillerman.

Quinsley Balentien had a strong offensive performance going 2-4 with 2 RBI's.  Enrique Madera stole 3 bases while going 1-3 with 1 run and 2 RBI's.  "Offensively we kept the pressure on 3 Rivers.  That was our goal and we were able to execute it," remarked assistant coach Tyler Hudlow.

Game 2:

The offense of the Pirates led the way as they completed the 4-game series sweep over 3 Rivers CC.  The Pirates scored 1 run in the 2nd inning but were able to break it open in the 3rd inning with 5 runs.  "Getting ahead early was important because we were trying to break their will," commented Coach Suttenfield.  "To 3 Rivers credit, they didn't go down that easily.  Some defensive miscues we committed in the middle innings allowed them to hang in the game and made it interesting until the end."

On the mound, Trae Brownell threw the ball well in his 5.1 innings of work for the win.  Bo McSpadden came in for the 9th and shut it down for his second save of the weekend.

Connor Quick concluded another strong series going 3-4 in the game with 2 walks, 2 runs scored and 1 RBI.  On the season, his batting average is now .655.  "Connor puts together strong at-bats regularly and his approach at the plate is really paying off," remarked Coach Hillerman.

The Pirates are now 5-3 on the year and 4-0 in Region 16 play.  Their next action will be Thursday at home as they welcome St. Louis Community College to town.  Game time is set for 1:00pm for the doubleheader.
