NCMC Athletics Announces 2024 Hall Of Fame Class

North Central Missouri College athletics proudly announces the following individuals, families and teams that will make up the 2024 NCMC Athletics Hall of Fame class.  Each will be recognized at the home basketball doubleheader on February 10th when NCMC takes on Southeast Community College.  Additionally, the 1998-99 Women's Basketball team will be acknowledged as it has been 25 years since their national tournament appearance, the first in school history.

 

Karen Bailey – NCMC Women's Basketball Player 1978-79, NCMC Women's Basketball Coach 1981-83

 

Karen Bailey is this year's Legacy inductee.  She was an inspirational figure in women's basketball who earns a deserving place in the NCMC Athletics Hall of Fame for her exceptional contributions. A non-traditional student, she juggled roles as a dedicated mother to her daughters Amy and Kesli while playing under Coach Junior Mullenix. Karen's journey from player to coach symbolizes her unwavering commitment to the sport, embodying resilience and dedication that transcend conventional norms. Serving as a Lady Pirates coach from 1981 to 1983, Karen's leadership and trailblazing spirit broke barriers, supported by her husband Larry, who accompanied her on many recruiting trips across the state. Her impact on the court and her enduring passion for basketball stand as an inspiration, solidifying her place as an esteemed inductee into the Hall of Fame.

 

Terrance Bush – NCMC Men's Basketball Player 2014-16

 

 

Terrance Bush, a basketball sharpshooter for the 2014-16 Pirates, earns a well-deserved induction into the Hall of Fame, leaving an indelible mark on NCMC athletics. Revered for his electrifying scoring prowess, Bush's legacy is beautifully encapsulated by then Head Coach Steve Richman: "I'm very proud of Terrance. I'm happy to see him rewarded for the countless hours of hard work he put into basketball, a game he loves. A well-deserved honor." According to then Assistant Coach Jeremy Esry, "Terrance was one of the most electric scores that we have ever had at NCMC and a fan favorite because of it.  Terrance is still remembered to this day for his long 3's and ability to put up a bunch of points in a short amount of time.  Some of his best games were against our toughest opponents and he was a big time competitor." His stats from the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons underscore his exceptional skills, boasting impressive averages of 15.7 and 22.0 points per game, respectively. For the 2015-16 season, Bush was selected as a 2nd Team All-American.  His impact also goes beyond numbers, as he showcased his competitiveness and ability to perform under pressure. Terrance Bush's induction stands as a testament to his dedication, skill, and enduring contributions to the rich basketball tradition at NCMC. Congratulations, Terrance, on this well-deserved honor, celebrated by teammates, coaches, and fans alike.

 

 

The Ralph and Joyce Cutsinger Family

 

The Cutsinger Family has had a profound impact and enduring dedication to the NCMC Athletics family, which has been nothing short of extraordinary. As eloquently stated by NCMC athletic director Nate Gamet, "The Cutsinger family embodies the true essence of NCMC Athletics, extending their support, commitment, and passion beyond just the confines of the sports arena." Head Men's Basketball Coach Jeremy Esry had these comments.  "There aren't too many fans or families in the nation that are as dedicated and loyal to their teams as the Cutsinger's have been to the NCMC men's and women's basketball programs. We always know where to look at home games to find them in their seats and it is a very common sight to see them on the road at Region 16 games, the Region tournament and even the National Tournament.  We appreciate all the hospitality they have given to our players throughout the years and it is families like the Cutsinger's who make NCMC such a special place." Their unwavering involvement, not only as enthusiastic supporters but also as pillars within the community, has left an indelible mark on the fabric of our institution. Through their tireless efforts, the Cutsinger's have exemplified the spirit of unity, strength, and camaraderie that transcends the realms of athletes, coaches, and staff, encompassing the entire community. It is with great pride and honor that we recognize and celebrate the legacy of the Cutsinger family, whose unwavering dedication has enriched the NCMC athletics family for generations to come.

 

Jalen Gant – NCMC Men's Basketball Player 2016-18

 

Jalen Gant, an extraordinary force on the basketball court, is rightfully enshrined in the NCMC Athletics Hall of Fame, leaving a permanent legacy. Gant's stellar statistics tell a story of dominance and excellence, showcasing his impressive scoring abilities and all-around contributions to the game. Praises echo the sentiment of his impact, as expressed by Head Coach Jeremy Esry. "Jalen Gant's dedication to the game and his remarkable skills have left an enduring mark on our program. His induction into the Hall of Fame is a well-deserved recognition of his contributions." Jalen was a 2nd Team All-American in 2015-16 and his two seasons exhibit a consistent commitment to Pirate's basketball excellence. He averaged 14.3 and 21.3 points per game, respectively, along with notable contributions in rebounds, assists, and blocks. His versatility, exemplified by strong field goal percentages and proficiency in all areas of the game, speaks volumes about his skill set. Jalen Gant's Hall of Fame induction serves as a tribute to his exceptional athleticism, leadership, and the lasting impact he has had on the NCMC basketball legacy. Deanna McQueen – NCMC Softball Player 2003-05

 

Deanna McQueen's pitching prowess over the seasons of 2003-04 and 2004-05 was simply outstanding. Her dedication and skill in the pitcher's circle were instrumental in leading her teams to numerous victories. Across these two phenomenal seasons, McQueen exhibited exceptional consistency and dominance, amassing an impressive 42 wins while only enduring a mere 9 losses. Her pitching statistics stand as a testament to her remarkable abilities, with an ERA of 2.33 in 2003-04 and an even more astounding 1.76 in 2004-05. McQueen's ability to strike out 128 and 120 batters respectively in those seasons displayed her incredible command and control. Deanna's coach Max Mothersbaugh shared these comments about his star pitcher.  "She was a great leader and a great kid to have on the team. She was the type of player that when it came to a big game you wanted the ball in her hand in the circle, as she was a pitcher not just a thrower. Deanna was recognized as an All-Region Player both her freshman and sophomore year at North Central.  She won us the game against Three Rivers that took us to the National Tournament and then threw really well for us at the National Tournament as well."  With 24 wins in 2003-04 and 18 wins in 2004-05, Deanna McQueen's impact on her team's success is indisputable, solidifying her rightful place in the annals of the NCMC Athletics Hall of Fame. Congratulations, Deanna McQueen, on this well-deserved induction, marking your legacy as one of the most exceptional pitchers in NCMC history.

 

Leigh Mead Porter – NCMC Women's Basketball 2003-05

 

Leigh Mead Porter, a women's basketball luminary, earns a well-deserved place in the Hall of Fame with her extraordinary career from 2003-05 which etched an indelible mark on the NCMC legacy. She twice was a First Team All-Region selection.  Not only is Leigh recognized as the 2nd leading scorer in school history, amassing an impressive 1,240 points, but she also stands as the 4th leading rebounder with 520 rebounds. She was an all-around player.  Her career also boasts the 5th highest free throw percentage in school history at an impressive 83%. NCMC Head Coach Jenni Croy, who coached against Leigh while she was in high school ranks, beautifully captures her multifaceted abilities.  "Leigh was a very talented player and is very deserving of this honor. She had a decorated career at NCMC and went on to have success at the University of Missouri-Kansas City as well. She had the ability to score under the basket plus hit the three-point shot. We are excited for Leigh as she is well deserving of this honor." Leigh Mead Porter's achievements, including the most points in a single season with 666 in 2004-05, stand as a testament to her skill, dedication, and lasting impact on NCMC women's basketball. Congratulations, Leigh, on your Hall of Fame induction, celebrating your remarkable contributions to the sport and NCMC athletics.

 

 

2018-19 NCMC Men's Basketball

 

The 2018-19 NCMC Men's Basketball team's exceptional journey was nothing short of inspirational, marked by their unwavering determination, remarkable skill, and unparalleled teamwork which led to the first NJCAA Region 16 championship for men's basketball in school history.  Additionally, this team won the NJCAA District 13 title with a victory over Arkansas State Mid-South to advance to the Division II National Tournament where they went 1-2.  Under the guidance of exceptional coaching from Jeremy Esry and Eric Penrod, this team of incredibly talented players exemplified athletic excellence and resiliency. The Pirate's fans will forever remember their outstanding achievements on the court, marked by a final record of 19-14.  The team's unwavering commitment to unity, sportsmanship, and sheer tenacity culminated in a season marked by triumphs and unforgettable moments that will forever resonate within the NCMC community. Head Coach Jeremy Esry had these comments about his team.  "The 2019 NCMC Men's Basketball Team will go down in history as the first men's team to make the National Tournament and it is well deserved.  We had an up and down year but found ourselves late and made a heck of run, beating some really good teams.  I will always remember how tough our guys were and how hard they competed every day.  They helped set the tone and culture for many years to come in the characteristics that we wanted to instill within our program. They are a team and group of guys that I will never forget." Congratulations on this well-deserved induction into the Hall of Fame, a testament to their exceptional talents and enduring effect this team had on the NCMC Athletics family.
