Three Pirates Named NJCAA All Americans

The National Junior College Athletic Association has announced the Division II All America basketball teams. NCMC had sophomore Marty Jackson earn 1st team honors. Atavian Butler, a freshman for the Pirates, earned 3rd team status. Also garnering 3rd team honors was Lady Pirate Kortlyn Rounkles, a redshirt freshman.

Rounkles averaged 17.8 points per game on 43.4% shooting from the field. Head Coach Jenni Croy had these comments about her team's honoree. "Kortlyn is a competitor. She brings it every day in practice and that definitely paid off for her this season. She is a scorer on the offensive end and does what it takes to get herself or her teammates a good look at the basket. I'm excited to have her in our program for another season."

Butler, in his first season for the high flying Pirates, provided 15.6 points per game. Initially, he came off the bench for NCMC but was inserted into the starting lineup midway though the season. "Atavian was a great addition to our program this year. We knew he was really good coming out of high school but unsure of how his game was going to translate to the college game. He proved night in and night out that he was one of the best players in the nation. Atavian is a competitor who has a great feel for the game and is going to do whatever it takes to get the job done. We are excited to get Tay back next year and watch him expand his game even more! He has a great opportunity to make history and be the first two-time All-American for our program," commented Pirates Head Coach Jeremy Esry.

The lone 1st team selection went to Marty Jackson. His 15.9 points per game anchored the Pirates attack. He also pulled down 6.8 rebounds per game. Esry raved about his departing sophomore. "Marty is one of the highest character, polite and focused kids that we have ever had in our program and he deserves everything that is coming his way. Simply put, Marty Jackson is a winner! Marty came into our program with the mentality that he was going to work and earn everything and that is exactly what he has done; he deserves all the accolades that are coming his way. I could not be more proud of him and all that he has accomplished and can't wait to see what his next move is!"
