Region XVI Road Wins For Pirates and Lady Pirates

NCMC Pirates and Lady Pirates basketball swept Metropolitan Community College on the road Saturday in Region XVI play.  Coach Croy's team got the day started by soundly defeating MCC 94-72 to move to 1-1 in region play.  The Pirates pulled out a much closer game to move to 2-0 in region.  Their 84-83 win pushed the NJCAA #1 ranked Pirates record to 22-1 for the season.

A fast start for women's basketball set the tone of their game.  They jumped out to a 19-10 lead after the first quarter and didn't look back.  From there, a balanced Lady Pirates attack resulted in victory.  Five players scored in double figures with Kourtlyn Rounkles (24 pts) and Kennedy Kieffer (20 pts) leading the way.  The 15-7 Lady Pirates hit the road Monday to take on Moberly Area Community College.

For men's basketball, the game was tight throughout.  Scoring leaders Marty Jackson (21 pts) and Atavian Butler (20 pts) carried the load for the Pirates offensively.  Jackson also pulled down 10 rebounds and blocked 4 shots in the victory.  Outside shooting was cold for the Pirates, making only 4 of 15 three point attempts.  Their next action will be a Wednesday road matchup with Division I national power Indian Hills Community College.  The Pirates will put their 18-game winning streak on the line.
