Lady Pirates Golf Withdraw From Graceland Invitational

NCMC Women's Golf competed in the Graceland Spring Invitational on Friday but withdrew from the second round on Saturday.  After one day of competition, Hannah Bracken sat in T19th at +32.  Julia Weydert was 29th at +42 and Shayla Woodside rounded out the field in 34th at +84.

"The tourney was an event of poor weather.  Day one was borderline unbearable for the opening and closing couple of holes.  We had wind blowing all day with gusts up to 30mph and wind chills in the 40s.  The ladies grabbed all of their warm weather gear in layers to get through the day.  We trudged through the day and for the most part saw our ball striking improve which is a focus we've been working on.  With the wind and cold our short game play struggled as the ladies were fighting having "touch".   Day two had a forecasted high of 37 with wind and chances of drizzle and the temperatures to fall through the day.  Wind chill values never got above 30 and there were several of us coaches that voiced the forecasted day.  With our ladies not having enough to players compete for a team score and not having an individual competing for a medal, I felt as a coach it was the best move for the ladies to withdraw from the day.   We have been moving forward with an end goal in sight at the region tourney and I did not want to see any regression with our work this spring with the frustration and frigid weather.  It would have been a very easy day to pull/strain muscles as getting stretched and staying loose would have been nearly impossible.   We look to work hard this week and the beginning of next on our putting and ball striking to be ready to keep bringing our scores down from tourney to tourney," commented Coach Daniel Cordray of the event.

The next action for the women's team will be April 8-9 when they compete in the Peru State Spring Invitational.
