NCMC Lady Pirates Go 1-2 In NJCAA DII National Tournament

After receiving an at-large bid to the 2024 NJCAA DII Women's Basketball National Championship tournament, the Lady Pirates went 1-2 in the event held in Joplin, MO to finish their season at 25-8.  This was the program's 3rd straight trip to the tournament, a school record.  NCMC, the 17th seed, defeated 16th seeded Southwestern Michigan College 79-63 in the opening round before taking losses to 1-seed Johnson County CC 55-43 and 8-seed Union College (NJ) 79-66 to be eliminated.

In the opening game, NCMC was led by sophomore Mary Copeland's 13 points.  Also scoring in double figures were Nateonia Russell with 10 points and the bench duo of Gladys Brown and A'Myah Bankston who netted 11 and 10 points respectively.  Russell's 11 rebounds and Copeland's 10 helped NCMC to a decided advantage on the glass in the game.  The Lady Pirate's outrebounded SW Michigan 50-36, a deciding factor.

Against top-seeded Johnson County, points were difficult to come by for both squads.  Russell scored 10 on 4-8 shooting but NCMC as a team shot just 26.5% in the game.  The long range game netted just 3-21 for NCMC, normally a strong suit.  NCMC got outrebounded in this contest 45-31 and Johnson County's Taliyah Scott led all scorers with 21 points.

In NCMC's elimination game, Union's Khila Morris proved too much for the Lady Pirates to handle.  She scored 36 points on 14-19 shooting plus 7-9 from the charity stripe.  NCMC's top scorer was Jessica Reeter with 17 points.  Off the bench, G. Brown added 16 points.  The game was close through 3 quarters with NCMC down by a single point before being outscored 27-15 in the final stanza.
