16th ranked NCMC women's basketball took a 73-61 home defeat Saturday against Highland Community College. With the loss, the Lady Pirates are 11-4 with a full week to prepare for their NJCAA Region 16 opening contest, a road matchup with Metropolitan Community College. Tipoff for that game is 2:00pm.
Highland's hot shooting carried them to victory. They netted 56% of their shots and went 11-23 from behind the arc while committing just 6 turnovers. Conversely, NCMC shot a pedestrian 35% from the field and only connected on 5 three point attempts. For the season, the Lady Pirates are shooting a much more robust 44%.
Leading the scoring in defeat was Nora Ford with 15 points. Angel Wiggins contributed 11 points and Maci Moore totaled 10 points; they were the only other NCMC players in double figures.
