Softball Takes 3rd In Region 16 Tournament

NCMC Softball went 1-2 in the Region 16 tournament over the weekend to finish the season with a record of 32-23 and a 3rd place finish in Region 16.  Both losses came to eventual runner up Jefferson College.  Final scores of those games were 5-1 and 6-5.  NCMC's win 11-3 in the tournament eliminated State Fair CC.

Against Jefferson College in the opening round, the Pirates struggled to get offensive traction accumulating just two hits.  Brookelynn Becker went 1-3 and drove in NCMC's lone run.  Cassi Rodgers took the complete game loss at pitcher, surrendering 4 earned runs in 6 innings pitched.  She struck out 3 Vikings.

In the 11-3 run rule victory over State Fair in NCMC's first elimination game, the Pirate's bats came alive.  As a team, NCMC pounded out 11 runs on 10 hits led by Gracie McKinney (2-3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs) and Addison Huber (2-3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs).  Also scoring two runs were Maeve Lavoy and Rodgers.  Lavoy earned the win in relief of Rodgers, tossing the final 3 innings while allowing just 1 run.

Elimination game two again pit the Pirates against host Jefferson College.  NCMC fell behind 6-0 before mounting a rally in the 5th inning where they plated their 5 runs.  However, the comeback bid fell short.  Highlighting the offense was Rodgers who went 2-4 with a homer, a run scored and 2 RBIs.  Becker also went 2-4 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI.  Taking the loss was Rodgers who gave up 3 earned runs in 4 innings pitched.

Winning the tournament was #2 seed Crowder College who went undefeated and will move into district play.

Earning All-Region distinction were three NCMC Pirates.  Congrats to 1st Team selection Rylie Boyer and 2nd Team selections Hope Helton and Brookelynn Becker.
