NCMC Softball went 1-2 in the Region 16 tournament over the weekend to finish the season with a record of 32-23 and a 3rd place finish in Region 16. Both losses came to eventual runner up Jefferson College. Final scores of those games were 5-1 and 6-5. NCMC's win 11-3 in the tournament eliminated State Fair CC.
Against Jefferson College in the opening round, the Pirates struggled to get offensive traction accumulating just two hits. Brookelynn Becker went 1-3 and drove in NCMC's lone run. Cassi Rodgers took the complete game loss at pitcher, surrendering 4 earned runs in 6 innings pitched. She struck out 3 Vikings.
In the 11-3 run rule victory over State Fair in NCMC's first elimination game, the Pirate's bats came alive. As a team, NCMC pounded out 11 runs on 10 hits led by Gracie McKinney (2-3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs) and Addison Huber (2-3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs). Also scoring two runs were Maeve Lavoy and Rodgers. Lavoy earned the win in relief of Rodgers, tossing the final 3 innings while allowing just 1 run.
Elimination game two again pit the Pirates against host Jefferson College. NCMC fell behind 6-0 before mounting a rally in the 5th inning where they plated their 5 runs. However, the comeback bid fell short. Highlighting the offense was Rodgers who went 2-4 with a homer, a run scored and 2 RBIs. Becker also went 2-4 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI. Taking the loss was Rodgers who gave up 3 earned runs in 4 innings pitched.
Winning the tournament was #2 seed Crowder College who went undefeated and will move into district play.
Earning All-Region distinction were three NCMC Pirates. Congrats to 1st Team selection Rylie Boyer and 2nd Team selections Hope Helton and Brookelynn Becker.
