Softball Closes Season At Region XVI Tournament

Lady Pirates Softball closed their season at the NJCAA Region XVI Tournament over the weekend.  NCMC, the fifth seed in the seven-team tournament, knocked off fourth seed State Fair Community College by a score of 6-3 to open action on Friday.  It turned out to be the only victory the team would get in the tournament.

The Lady Pirates then drew top seeded Crowder College and took the Roughriders to extra innings in a pitcher's duel.  Crowder finally broke the 0-0 tie in walk-off fashion with a run in the 8th inning to earn the win and knock NCMC into the loser's bracket.

Saturday, the Lady Pirates met host and sixth seed Metropolitan Community College.  NCMC fell behind 7-0 after two innings of play before trying to mount a comeback attempt.  A five-run third inning pulled NCMC to within two runs, which was as close as the Lady Pirates would get.  Metropolitan held on by that margin, taking the 11-9 victory and ending NCMC's season.  The Lady Pirates finished the year with a record of 28-22.

Individual Region XVI honors were received at a banquet prior to the tournament.  For the Lady Pirates, the players below were recognized.

First Team:  Kendra Holt, Infield
