Lady Pirates softball split on Thursday with Ottawa University JV. The opener was a 10-2 defeat but the team got things turned around in game two earning a 13-5 win. On the year, the team's record now sits at 4-2 heading into Sunday's region opening double header at 3 River Community College.
In game 1, Ottawa jumped out to an 8-0 lead after 2 innings and didn't look back. Allison Hilsabeck took the loss giving up 10 runs over 4 innings pitched. Offensively, the Lady Pirates only mustered two hits, one each from Georgia Gibler and Jessica Stupar.
Game 2 went much better for the Lady Pirates. Despite falling behind 4-0 after one inning, the team dug in and righted the ship scoring 4 runs in the 3rd inning and 5 in the 4th. When it was over, a 13-5 victory was in hand behind a 15 hit offensive explosion.
Jessica Stupar earned the win giving up 5 runs, all earned, over 6 innings pitched. She struck out 4 while walking 6. Offensively, Jaclyn Weydert led the way going 3-3 with 3 runs, 2 RBI's, and a walk. Also with multiple hits were Bethany Jacobsen, Rachael Balke, Amber Austin, and Stupar.
