Tough Tournament for NCMC Men’s Golf

The North Central Missouri College Men's Golf team traveled to the Paradise Pointe Golf Complex to compete in the Kansas City Cup hosted by William Jewell College on Monday and Tuesday. The Pirate men competed in 36 holes on Monday and concluded play with 18 holes on Tuesday. NCMC placed in 6th at the event with a 54-hole team score of 1039. Park University won the team portion of the event on the Men's side. The tournament field consisted of Park University, Rockhurst University, William Jewell College, Southwestern Community College and Baker University.

"I can't thank Coach Sager enough for inviting us to the KC Cup these past few days. The best tournament field we will compete in this year and a great recruiting tool for this program with plenty of four year schools in attendance. The guys came in with the incorrect mindset and fell on the leaderboard quickly. The Outlaw Course at Paradise Pointe was designed to favor the people who can hit fairways and greens and we missed the mark this week.

Individually, here is how the Pirates finished in the 52- player field.

Kyle Steel: 84-80-85 – 35th

Austin Lasher: 85-82-89 – 44th

Mason Moncrief: 90-91-87- 48th

Jaron McClaran: 94-90-85 – 49th

Jerret Courtney: 93-94-87 – 51st

"The last two tournaments have been really hard to watch for the guys. The time spent in the weight room will not be an issue the next couple weeks before State Fair. I am going to put this on the guys these next two weeks to figure out what the grind really means in college golf. They guys that want to get better will give their 100% every single day not just in practice but putting that extra time in. The ones who continue to go through the motions will be scratching their heads in a few weeks."
