The North Central Missouri College Men's Golf team traveled to Lamoni, IA on Thursday to compete in the Graceland Fall Invitational hosted by Graceland University. The Pirates finished in 2nd place out of 5 schools at the tournament firing a team score of 302 which is the best team score posted by the Men's golf program since 2019. Winning the team portion of the event was Southwestern Community College with an 18-hole team tally of 297. Second year Head Coach Nate Swann had these remarks, "2nd place doesn't sting so bad when you know the guys gave their best effort yesterday. All eight of our guys came in with the correct game plan and mindset which allowed them to hit more greens in regulation and giving them some more birdie opportunities. In a perfect world I would have really liked them to finish their last 3-4 holes better but this team continues to get better every day."
The Pirates got two Top 10 finishes from Austin Lasher and Mason Moncrief at the event. Lasher placed 4th with a solid +1 score of 73. Moncrief finished in a finish for T6th after firing a round of 75. "Very happy with Mason and Austin after they got off to a shaky start at Rockhurst. Austin was very disappointed after his Bogey-Bogey finish but he hit the driver well all day and had a very stress free round including four birdies. Mason also had a positive day with the driver and scrambled well. He also tied for first in the tournament field with 13 pars." Will Heller was the only other person in the field to match 13 pars for the tournament.
Kyle Steel and Jaron McClaran finished in T11th place after posting twin scores of 77. Will Heller and Jacob Stallo also finished inside the Top 20 for the event shooting twin 79's for NCMC. Rounding out the Pirate scoring was Luke Lopes and Jerret Courtney. Lopes came around Lamoni Golf and Country Club with an 18-hole score of 88 while Courtney shot 97.
The NCMC Men's Golf team continues their Fall Tournament schedule when they travel to Council Bluffs, IA on September 19th to compete in the Bent Tree Fall Intercollegiate hosted by Iowa Western Community College.
