Pirates Place 6th At MVC Spring

Pirates Men's Golf placed 6th of 8 at the MVC Spring Invitational.  The team shot 318 on the first day and 313 on the second day for a combined 631 event score.  Winning the tournament was host Missouri Valley College (A-Team) with a score of 566.

Individually, Jasper van der Zon placed T12 in the event with a score of +8.  Jasper's scores did not factor in the team score due to Coach Craig Sager's decision to hold him out of the starting lineup due to illness.  "It was really nice to see Jasper complete the event considering how he felt when we left town on Monday.  We decided to move him off team roster because we just weren't sure how many holes he was going to be able to play.  I think he learned a lot from this event," commented Sager.

Other individual scores were as follows:

T15 Lewis Hopkinson (+10)

T20 Scott Swayne (+13)

T24 James Gardner (+17)

T26 Cody Glenn (+18)

T32 Easton Klaver (+20)

"All of the guys had coachable moments during their rounds.  Cody and Lewis bounced back from their slow starts, Scott got back into the 70's, and James hit the ball as good as he has all season.  Easton found out he was going to play for Jasper about 10 minutes before the start of the event.  He did a good job of holding it together.  It just shows how deep and talented we are as a team," Sager detailed.

The Pirates focus is still on improvement so that they show their best at the end of the season district tournament.  "We'll get down to the range this week and work on a couple shots that keep sneaking up on us.  I still think 300 will be the score needed to get through our District competition.  The plan is to peak in those three rounds," concluded Sager.
