Sixth Place Finish For Pirates Golf At Graceland Invitational

NCMC Men's Golf took 6th place in the 12 team field at the Graceland Spring Invitational.  While the weather wasn't ideal for any of the participants, the Pirates held their own in the event.

After the first round on Friday, the Pirates sat in 5th place as a team.  "The guys competed really well on day one.  The conditions were tough, but for the most part we dealt with it," commented Coach Sager of his team's ability to deal with the windy day one conditions.  Jasper van der Zon individually sat in T7 place with a +5 score after one round.

Day two saw more cold weather but the Pirates fought through the conditions to a 6th place team score.  "The cold weather got to our guys early on the second day.  We were able to get through it but gave up considerable ground to the top part of the field," detailed Sager.  The Pirates day two team score was only 2 strokes worse than day one.

The top two placers for the Pirates were van der Zon (14th, +14) and Cody Glenn (T15th, +15).  "Jasper and Cody both had moments during their rounds that show their potential," added Sager.

"Everyone has plenty of positives to take away from the event.  The key is going to be learning from their mistakes and then forgetting about them.  It's a grind, we don't have time to dwell on negative stuff," concluded Sager.  The Pirates are back in action in a dual with Region 16 foe Mineral Area College on March 26-27.
