Men's Golf competes in Tyler, TX

The North Central Missouri College men's golf team competed with a small roster in the Tyler Junior College Fall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.  In near perfect conditions at Pine Spring G.C. in Tyler, TX, the Pirates posted a team 36-hole score of 631.  "This wasn't our best team performance this season, but we did see a few personal marks that should help with the transition into winter workouts," remarked a pleased Coach Sager.

Individually, Lewis Hopkinson finished in a tie for 31st place at +5.  "Lewis shooting 78-71 again shows that he can score well on any type of course.  This was the first time in his career that he putted on bermuda grass and for him to learn the surface that quick is impressive.  Finishing that second round under par will really help his confidence going into the offseason.  We brought him in for his ability to shoot low numbers and now that he's done it, I don't see him looking back."

Other individual scores for the Pirates were Easton Klaver (+16), James Gardner (+17) and Scott Swayne (+17).  "Easton played really good through 28 holes, however the last 8 holes posed problems.  He'll learn from it, each time you get a chance to play a closing stretch you learn a little more about how to handle the pressure of finishing a round.  James was finally able to crack into the 70's, something we all knew he could do, he just hadn't been able to do it in competition.  It's another step in the right direction for him, I'm excited to see him compete in the spring.  Scott didn't play his best, but I'm confident that he'll bounce back with strong numbers in the spring.  Scott has played enough golf to know that sometimes it just isn't your day, he'll be fine," added Sager.
