Pirates Fall To St. Louis CC On Sophomore Day

Pirate's basketball took a 93-87 home loss on Saturday to Region 16 rival St. Louis Community College.  NCMC is now 15-6 overall and 1-1 in region play.  The Pirates will have a week to regroup with their next action being a road contest with Southeast CC, a team that defeated them 84-80 two weeks ago in the Ketcham Center.

The battle on the glass proved to be the deciding factor in the defeat.  NCMC was outrebounded 43-26 with St. Louis pulling down a staggering 23 offensive rebounds which led to numerous second chance points.  Though NCMC shot a better percentage from the field in the game, St. Louis took 23 more shots than the Pirates did.

Kam Bevel led NCMC scorers with 19 points on 7-17 shooting.  Gerald Gittens did the majority of his damage at the free throw line, making 11-14 in route to 17 points.  Nelson Reynolds totaled 15 points but fouled out in the contest.  DeMarcus Sanford Jr. tallied 12 points and knocked in 2 of 3 from long range.

Sophomore players Kam Bevel, Sterling DeSha, Gerald Gittens, DeMarcus Sanford Jr. and Evan Worley were honored in a pregame ceremony along with manager Kendall Harkrider.
