A Huge Win, Close Loss For Pirates Basketball At Home

On Friday, men's basketball easily handled Graceland University JV 105-51 to open their home schedule of games.  Scoring was balanced across the entire Pirates roster with sophomores Quinan Rieves and Marty Jackson leading the way with 16 points each.  A stifling Pirates defense netted 16 steals in the game.

Saturday saw the Pirates take their first loss of the year to 7th ranked Parkland College.  NCMC came out on the short end of the 74-61 final score.  Jackson again had a big game for the Pirates, scoring 23 points, but no other Pirate could muster double figures.  Defensively, NCMC struggled to find an answer for Parkland's 6'8" center Joey Saracco, who poured in 20 points.

"Overall it was a productive weekend for us and it was great to finally get to play in front of our home crowd.  We would have loved to have won both games but I think we learned a lot in our loss to Parkland and now have a better understanding on what it's going to take to make the National Tournament," said an optimistic NCMC Head Coach Jeremy Esry.

Tuesday's home matchup against Kansas Christian University has been cancelled and will be rescheduled at a later date.  That makes Friday's matchup with Labette Community College in the KCK Shootout the next action for the Pirates who have an overall record of 4-1.
