Late Game Heroics For Pirates In Win Over #19 Johnson County CC

NCMC had a thrilling last second win on Wednesday at home against 19th ranked Johnson County Community College.  The Pirates improved to 6-3 on the season with the 85-83 win which was highlighted by sophomore Major Finley's game winning 3 pointer with 8 seconds remaining.

Freshman Jalen Gant led the way for the Pirates with 17 points.  Finley totaled 14 points and fellow sophomore Demetrious Houston Jr. chipped in 13.

Here are first year coach Jeremy Esry's comments on the exciting contest.  "The guys did a great job of fighting the entire game.  It was a game of runs and we knew that whenever they made a run we had to match it.  Luckily, our last run was enough to hold on for the win.  I thought our guys did a good job with our defensive game plan and eliminated their main looks.  Anytime you can get a season sweep over a well-coached and talented team like Johnson County it is a good day."

The Pirates have one more road contest before the end of the first semester against Lincoln Land Community College.  "We know it's going to take a lot of attention to detail and effort to pull out another win against Lincoln Land to earn that series sweep," remarked Esry.  The squad takes on Lincoln Land CC in Springfield, IL on Saturday, December 10th.
