It was a tale of two different days for Pirate's baseball as they swept a doubleheader with East Central College 2-0 and 8-4 on Thursday before taking 10-5 and 17-7 defeats on Friday. NCMC is now 16-16 overall and 4-3 in Region 16 play. Next up will be a road game at State Fair CC on Tuesday.
Lights out pitching from sophomores Kevin Toala (7 IP, 0 runs, 5 K's) and Allan Martinez (7 IP, 4 runs, 5 K's) were key to the two victories. They held down a potent East Central lineup on Thursday which led to the two NCMC wins. Friday, starters Camden Lutz (3.1 IP, 6 runs, 4 K's) and Eric Torrero (1.2 IP, 4 runs, 2 K's) each took losses.
For the weekend offensively, Julio Guerrero paced the Pirates. He went 9-12 with a pair of home runs, 6 runs scored and 3 RBIs. His season batting average is up to .495, which is good for 9th best in the nation. Cesar Grau also had a pair of homers in his 3-9 weekend. Jordi Ventura chipped in a homer and 5 RBIs. Nationally, he ranks 8th in RBIs with 44 and 13th in home runs with 9.
