Pirates Baseball Splits With Tough Southeast CC Squad

Pirates Baseball Splits With Tough Southeast CC Squad

Pirate's baseball split with Southeast CC on Wednesday in a home doubleheader.  NCMC dropped game one 11-0 before rebounding with a 3-1 win to salvage the split.  Next up will be a big Region 16 home showdown with Moberly Area CC.  The Pirates currently sit in 1st place in the region with a 4-2 mark.  That series will be Friday (doubleheader @ 1pm) and Saturday (single game @ 2pm).

NCMC did not offer much resistance against the visiting Storm in the opener.  SCC hammered 4 home runs to take their 35th win of the year.  Nathan Fine took the loss on the mound, surrendering 4 earned runs over 3 innings pitched.  The Pirates offense could only muster 4 hits against the SCC pitching staff.

Pitching and defense plus a 2-run homer from Tanner Wright in game two led to victory.  The combo of Layne Rutherford (4 IP, 1 ER, 7 Ks) and Kyle Stratman (3 IP, 0 ER, 2 Ks) kept Storm hitters of balance and off the base paths.  NCMC turned 3 clutch double plays in the game as well.  In addition, adding hits to go with Wright's big blast were Keaton Mudd (1-3, 1 run) and Landon Wells (1-3, 1 double, 1 RBI).

NCMC is now 17-23 for the season and 5-1 at home.
