Pirates Baseball Drops Two Against Hesston College

Pirate's baseball took a pair of losses over the weekend to Hesston College, which moved the team's overall record to 4-19.  The games were contested at Lathrop High School due to wet field conditions at Burleigh Grimes.  Next action for NCMC was scheduled to be on Tuesday but those games at Missouri Valley College JV have been cancelled as their varsity team needed to makeup league games.  A trip to NJCAA Region 16 foe Moberly Area CC on Friday and Saturday will be the team's next opportunity to right the ship.

Freshman Hagen McGarrah led the offensive charge for NCMC in the defeats as he went 5-7 with a pair of runs scored.  He improved his season batting average to a team leading .339.  Fellow freshman Landon Wells knocked his first home run of the year and scored a pair of runs.  As a team, NCMC outhit Hesston over the two games 20-15 but was unable to push enough runs across the board to secure a victory.

On the mound, freshmen Kevin Toala and Allan Martinez each took losses in their starts.  In 16 innings pitched, the pitching staff surrendered 18 total runs but only 8 of those were earned.  Timely errors (7) by the Pirate's defense proved costly in the losses.
