Redlands CC got the best of NCMC baseball over the weekend when they swept a 4-game series with the Pirates. On Saturday, NCMC was downed by the scores of 6-3 and 2-1 while Sunday saw defeats of 8-6 and 18-7. The Pirates are off to a rough 0-8 start but will look to turn the tide against Lewis and Clark CC on March 4-5. This will be another 4-game set played in Joplin, MO at Joe Becker Stadium.
Having a nice offensive weekend for the Pirates was freshman Hagen McGarrah. He went 4-13 with a home run 3 runs scored. Rawlins Brant posted a 4-8 mark including a home run, a triple and a double. He scored 3 runs and totaled 3 RBIs. As a team, NCMC hit .222 for the weekend and struck out 31 times, both numbers the Pirates will look to improve upon.
On the mound, losses went to starters Tanner Schmidt (0-2), Ramses Gutierrez (0-1) and Layne Rutherford (0-2) plus reliever Evan Johnston (0-1). Out of the bullpen for the Pirates, sophomore Jaden Thacker threw the ball nicely allowing 0 runs over 2 IP. He pushed his scoreless innings streak to four to start the year.
