1-3 Road Trip For Pirates

1-3 Road Trip For Pirates

Pirates baseball had mixed results in their weekend series of games in Sedalia, MO.  Each day the Pirates took on State Fair Community College and John Wood Community College.  In day one, the Pirates struggled mightily in the opener losing 11-0 to State Fair.  The team rebounded nicely for a decisive 16-2 victory over John Wood.

The second day saw a pair of losses for the Pirates, pushing their season record to 4-7 overall.  In game one, the Pirates jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning but couldn't muster anymore offense after that.  John Wood broke through with five runs in the 4th inning, aided by defensive miscues from the Pirates, and didn't look back on their way to a 7-2 win.  In the finale, the Pirates fell behind early to State Fair and despite a comeback attempt in the 7th inning which brought the go ahead run to the plate, the Pirates were defeated 10-7.

Earning the lone Pirates victory on the mound was Alexander Lovin.  He tossed 5 innings allowing just three hits and two runs.  He also struck out 3 while improving his record to 1-0.

Standing out for the Pirates offense was freshman Albert Gonzalez.  He batted .556 for the weekend with 3 RBIs.  Also providing much offensive output was Logan Eickhoff.  He went 5-13 with 2 doubles, 1 home run, 6 runs scored and 9 RBIs.  Kayden Lewis and Nathaniel Bentura each had homers as well.
