Pirates Split Road Series With North Arkansas

Pirates baseball split their opening series this past weekend in Harrison, AR.  The Pirates opened the four game set with North Arkansas College by winning an 11-inning affair by the score of 5-4.  Game two, which was suspended on Saturday and resumed Sunday due to darkness, went to North Ark 6-2.  The Pirates rebounded from that loss by earning another extra innings victory, this time a 9-7 win in 10 innings.  The Pioneers took the series finale by the score of 9-1.

"Overall, there were positives to take from the weekend.  Our players showed a lot of fight to pull out the close, extra innings games.  The majority of pitchers commanded the strike zone, giving us a chance to win.  Our offense showed glimpses of what we feel can be consistent production.  Defensively, we had some errors but nothing that we feel can't be fixed in practice, especially if we can get outside soon," commented assistant coach Ryan Suttenfield.

Three Pirates had home runs in the series.  Logan Eickhoff knocked his in the first game to get the Pirates scoring started.  Nathaniel Bentura added his in game two's defeat.  Braedyn Brewer provided a solo shot in the game three victory.

Sophomore Jackson Weber and freshman Avery Rivero each earned a win and a save for the Pirates on the mound.  Taking the losses were Cash Miller and Garrich Phelipa.

Next up for the Pirates will be a three-game series on the road with Three Rivers Community College.
