Sunday Split For Pirates Baseball

Pirates Baseball traveled to Kirksville, MO on Sunday to take on Truman State University in a fall scrimmage double-header.  The Pirates took defeat in game one 12-8 before rebounding to earn a 1-0 victory in game two.  Next action for the Pirates will be a home matchup Tuesday against Central Methodist University.

Braedyn Brewer had a terrific offensive day for the Pirates.  He went 6-7 with 3 runs scored and 3 stolen bases.  Following the games, Brewer's .407 batting average now leads NCMC for the fall.

On the mound, five Pirates pitchers combined for the shutout in the second game.  Earning the win in relief was sophomore Cash Miller who tossed a scoreless 5th inning.  Kohl Weber notched the save for the Pirates.

"We saw some really good things today and some areas to improve.  In the first game, our defense had its biggest struggles so far this fall; most of these seemed to be focus related issues.  As a coaching staff, this surprised us some because defense had been our strongest area of play to date.  On the mound, we simply gave Truman State too many free bases with walks and HBP.  In both areas, we really cleaned it up in the second game and were able to pull out the win with some small ball and situational hitting.  How we performed as a team to rally and win the second game is very encouraging," commented assistant coach Ryan Suttenfield.
