Pirates Baseball Kicks Off Fall Schedule

Pirates Baseball opened their fall slate of games on Thursday at the University of Central Missouri.  In the junior college jamboree, the Pirates took a 7-5 loss to Fort Scott Community College in the opener and a 7-3 loss to Johnson County Community College in the second game of the doubleheader.  Next action for the Pirates will be on Wednesday, September 25th when they travel to Kansas City to take on the KC Royals Showcase Team.

In the game with Fort Scott, sophomore transfer Genesis Nunez led the offensive charge going 3-3 with a run scored and three RBIs.  Also having a nice performance at the plate was sophomore Ale Claro who chipped in with a pair of hits and two runs scored.  On the mound, six Pirates hurlers combined to allow four earned runs while striking out four Greyhound hitters.

Against Johnson County, sophomore Braedyn Brewer went 2-4 with a pair of runs scored.  As a team, Johnson County limited NCMC to just five hits.  On the mound, Pirates starter Garrich Phelipa was roughed up for five runs in the second inning, which proved too much for the Pirates offense to overcome.
