Baseball Loses 3 of 4 to Riverland Community College

Riverland Community College came down from Minnesota for a four game series against the Pirates this past Sunday and Monday.  After getting a win in the opener on Sunday by the score of 9-4, the Pirates dropped the final three games to move their overall record to 12-32.

Game one saw Pirates pitcher Amexem Hamm go the distance for the win.  He allowed 4 runs, 3 of which were earned, while scattering 9 hits in 7 innings pitched.  With the win, he improved his record to 2-0 on the year.

Offensively, the Pirates hammered out 13 hits including doubles by Caleb Walker and Michaelle Collado.  Walker finished the game going 2-2, 2 walks, 1 run and 4 RBIs.  Another nice offensive performance came from Tanner Ryan who went 3-3, 2 runs and 1 RBI.

Unfortunately for the Pirates, the rest of the series did not go their way.  The Pirates dropped the next three games by the scores of 2-0, 16-5, and 13-9.  The Pirates were outhit in those games 35-22.  Bright spots for the Pirates offense were Connor Quick (4-7, 3 runs), Quinsly Balentien (5-9, 2 runs and 5 RBIs) and Enrique Madera (5-11, 3 runs).  "It was apparent in the final three games of the series that Riverland just wanted it more than we did.  It was disappointing to see the lack of focus and motivation from our players," commented Coach Suttenfield.

Pirates pitching was certainly thin for the series.  After its completion, the Pirates have played 8 games in 5 days.  The games keep coming for the Pirates who will try to stop their current 3 game losing streak at home on Tuesday against Highland Community College.  The Pirates look to avenge a 9-6 road loss to Scotties last Tuesday.
