NCMC Celebrates Homecoming, Alumni, and Sophomores

Over 1000 fans helped NCMC celebrate Homecoming, Alumni Appreciation, Sophomore, and Athletic Hall of Fame Day on Saturday, February 1, 2020.  Homecoming and Alumni Appreciation Day activities were originally scheduled for January 22, 2020, but had to be postponed due to inclement weather.

 

A pre-game tailgate and Athletic Hall of Fame reception were sponsored by BTC Bank of Trenton and Smithfield Hog Production Missouri.  Pirate Crew rally towels sponsored by PDQ Cleaning Services were handed out to the first 200 fans.  Additional give-a-ways were provided by the NCMC Alumni Association and Student Affairs.  NCMC Student Senate President Katie Blanchard of Lucerne, Missouri, welcomed the crowd, and Sarahbeth Michael of Gallatin, Missouri, performed the National Anthem. 

 

Lady Pirates and Pirates competed against the Saint Louis Community College Archers, a Region XVI rival.  The Lady Pirates lost 74-54, and the Pirates won 76-61, holding onto their number one ranking for NJCAA Division II.

 

During halftime of the Lady Pirates game, the NCMC Dance Wave Crew, coached by Melissa Spencer, performed a Hip Hop routine with a little help from Patch the Pirate.  Coronation also took place, and Cash Miller of Warsaw, Missouri was crowned the 2020 Homecoming King, and Katie Adkison of Hamilton, Missouri, was crowned the 2020 Homecoming Queen.  Distinguished Alumni Chris Hoffman of Trenton, Missouri, and the 2019 Homecoming Queen Jamee Scearce of Gower, Missouri, assisted during the festivities.  The additional candidates included; Gregoor Moesker –Willemstad, Curacao; Chasidy Finney – Princeton, Missouri; Andrew George – Canton, Missouri; Brooke Leeper – Princeton, Missouri; Tyler Kidd – Trenton, Missouri and Annaliese Riley – Chillicothe, Missouri.

 

Between games was dedicated to celebrating sophomore winter sports student athletes. Dance Wave Crew recognized six sophomores; Katie Adkison, Skyler Adkison, Chasidy Finney, Kayley Griffin, Thelma Guerrero, and Audra Lee. Lady Pirate Basketball recognized three sophomores; Dymeria Guillory, Da'Briauna Bables, and Manager Blythe Mattson. Pirate Basketball recognized six sophomores; Jonathan Richmond, TJ Babikir, Rayonte Childs, Michael Horton, Quinan Rieves, and Marty Jackson.  The Houston Family of Birmingham, Alabama, was recognized as NCMC Family of the Year; son and current Pirate basketball player Demarius Houston nominated his parents, Demetrius and Arnetra.

 

The additional five NCMC sports teams were recognized prior to tip-off of the men's game.  Lady Pirate Softball, Head Coach Steve Richman and Assistant Coach Sarah Van Dyke; Pirate Baseball, Head Coach Donnie Hillerman, Assistant Coach Ryan Suttenfield and Tyler Hudlow; Lady Pirate Golf, Head Coach Daniel Cordray; Pirate Golf, Interim Head Coach Nathan Gamet; Pirate Esports, Head Coach Christopher Flowers and Esports Director Corey Cooksey.

 

Halftime activities of the Pirates game were dedicated to the honorees being inducted into the NCMC Athletic Hall of Fame. The 2013-2014 NCMC Lady Pirates Women's Basketball Team.   Members of the team included players Meagan O'Dell, Lexi Hope, Sydnee Rounkles, Nancy Berwanger, Jackie Graham, Brooke Parton, Kayla Oetterer, Samone Redditt, Kaitlin Williams, redshirt Narel Santos, manager Kristin Hastings, head coach Jenni Croy and assistant coach Lesli Collins.  Also honored was Steve Maxey, longtime director of the North Central Missouri College Foundation, sponsored High School Holiday Hoops. 

 

"The theme for the day was 'Pirate for Life," commented NCMC Director of Development Alicia Endicott.  "Seeing the Ketcham Community Center buzzing with excitement for all things NCMC is what made the entire day.  We thank all the alumni, friends, family members, students, and fans that helped us celebrate."
